Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE First Looks

Samsung released a bunch of 2023 Fan Edition devices covering the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE, and Samsung Galaxy Buds FE which I have covered earlier, and what we have here is the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE

Just like the Galaxy S23 FE – Samsung skipped a generation of the Galaxy Tab Fan Edition. It sits in between the powerhouse Galaxy Tab S9 series and the budget-friendly Galaxy Tab A9 series. The perfect balance in terms of performance and price.

Here’s a quick first look at the new Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE and a full review coming up next. First, what’s in the box;

  • Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE
  • S Pen
  • USB C to C Cable
  • SIM Ejector Pin

Design

You see no cutting corners in terms of build quality, I would say it’s on par with the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 which I reviewed last month. Feature aluminum unibody rounded corners that feel solid and premium. It even gets IP68 water and dust-resistant – Watch your favorite drama in the shower?

Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE Aluminium

Equipped with a stereo AKG-tuned speaker and a single 8MP with autofocus rear camera.

The power button that doubles as a fingerprint scanner and volume rocker are positioned on the top left. The USB charging port is located on the left. There’s a microSD or SIM card slot (for the 5G model) on the right side.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE comes with tonnes of color selection and even gets a color-matched S Pen.

S Pen

Like the device, the S Pen is also water and dust-resistant, so you don’t need to worry about spilling coffee over the tablet and the S Pen. The S Pen can be attached magnetically to the top or back of the tablet, so you won’t lose or misplace it.

It works like any other Samsung Galaxy S Pen, it supports palm rejection and you can hover on the screen for more actions or gestures.

Display

Coming to display, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE didn’t get the superior Dynamic AMOLED 2X display on the Galaxy Tab S9. Instead, it sports a 10.9″ WUXGA+, 2,304 x 1,440 LCD panel and features a high 90Hz refresh rate. Don’t get me wrong, this is a high-quality LCD with great color reproduction.

It’s a great media consumption slate that is complemented with a stereo AKG-tuned speaker.

Performance

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE is powered by the Samsung Exynos 1380 chipset, the capable chip that is found on the Samsung Galaxy A54. Configured with two options; 6GB of RAM with 128GB internal storage and 8GB of RAM that doubled the storage.

One UI 5.1

Running on Samsung One UI 5.1.1 based on Android 13, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE will be one perfect addition to the Samsung Ecosystem where you will enjoy seamless connectivity between Samsung devices. Samsung also enabled Samsung DeX so that you can transform this tablet into a laptop mode by connecting a wireless keyboard and mouse or project it onto a bigger display like TV or monitor.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE will receive plenty of OS upgrades and security like the Tab S9 flagship models. Meaning Samsung will eventually update it to Android 17 and offer security updates until 2028.

Battery

This only 6.5mm thickness slate is packed with an 8,000 mAh battery and can be fully charged in less than an hour with a 45W charger.

My first impression of this tablet has nothing fall short and I find it to be a good all-rounder tablet that you won’t be disappointed. Will have a more comprehensive review of this tablet in the coming days, so stay tuned for that.

Where to buy

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE is priced at RM 2,099 and can be purchased through Samsung E-Store, Lazada & Shopee.
