I’ve recently received the latest Galaxy Z Flip5 5G foldable smartphone from Samsung Malaysia, and I’m excited to share my unboxing video and initial thoughts with you.

What you saw from the unboxing video, things that come with it are pretty much the same as its other Samsung Galaxy devices;

Having both the Galaxy Z Flip4 5G and Z Flip5 5G, it’s quite hard to distinguish between the two models until you activate the new Flex Window cover display.

The cover display has been notably expanded to 3.4-inch AMOLED, offering the convenience of checking notifications while responding with a full-sized keyboard. Samsung has gone a step further by enabling app launch from the cover screen, meaning you can literally, run any app without flipping open the main display.

Showcasing an identical expansive 6.7-inch 120Hz LTPO 2.0 Full HD+ AMOLED foldable screen, now reinforced with improved Ultra Thin Glass protection, the device maintains its impressive display. The bezels have been noticeably narrower compared to its predecessor. It took Samsung five generations of foldable innovation to achieve a “Gapless” folding hinge.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 5G maintains its IPX8 water-resistant rating and shield with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the outer glass and Armour Aluminium frame.

On the right side are the power button that doubled as a fingerprint scanner and the volume rocker buttons. While at the bottom, you will find the USB port alongside with microphone and speaker.

Located at the upper left corner, there’s a SIM card tray that accommodates a single nano SIM card. Don’t worry if you need two lines as the Galaxy Z Flip5 5G offers compatibility with an eSIM.

The center hole punch cutout on the foldable screen houses a 10MP front camera with a much wider f/2.2 aperture lens. So you can expect it to perform better in low-light conditions compared to the Galaxy Z Flip4.

Equipped with the same two 12MP cameras from the Galaxy Z Flip4, a primary camera with f/1.8 aperture, and an ultrawide fixed focus camera with 123° FoV. According to Samsung, the photos and video quality are significantly improved with the help of the ISP derived from Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy.

Under the hood, is the 2023’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy, the same chip found on the Samsung Galaxy S23 series. Paired with 8GB of LPDDR5 memory and storage option of 256GB and 512GB UFS 4.0.

Fueling the Galaxy Z Flip5 5G is the same 3,700 mAh battery that supports 25W wired or 15W wireless fast charging.
