Design & Built

If you are coming from the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G, you will find a lot of similarities where you can’t tell the difference by a glance. It still folds in half in clamshell and doesn’t look any different from the usual candy bar design smartphone when it’s opened.

The capacitive power button doubled as a fingerprint scanner is located on the right along with the volume button, while the SIM card slot is on the left. Worth noting, that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 5G supports dual SIM, eSIM, and a physical SIM card.

At the bottom, you will find the USB C port, microphones, and a loudspeaker.

Samsung uses strong and light Armor Aluminium for its frame and hinge. The hinge provides enough resistance to let it open at various angles to use Flex Mode. According to Samsung, they have redesigned the hinge mechanism which is now smaller and thinner. The crease on the folding point is still visible to touch like its predecessor.

It features the same bright 1.9″ Cover Display with a dual camera setup and a LED flash. The Cover Display can have simple interactions and access like widgets, read and respond to simple notifications and launch Samsung Pay to make payments. The outer glass is a slab of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+, the toughest glasses in the mobile industry.

While having so many moving parts, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 5G is rated with IPX8 water resistance and is the only foldable smartphone brand.

Display

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 5G gets an upgrade for its display to a more power-efficient LTPO panel where it would intelligently switch refresh rate between 1Hz to 120Hz. The in-house Samsung Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity Flex display is HDR10+ supports with 1,200 nits peak brightness. It’s pre-affixed with a PET film protector that strengthens the UTG (Ultra Thin Glass).

Performance

Performance would be the last thing you need to worry about with this device. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 is powered by the powerful and power-efficient Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, coupled with 8GB LPDDR5 memory and up to 512GB UFS 3.1 storage.

Have yet to run any synthetic benchmark tests, but it can handle high graphic demanding mobile games like Genshin Impact and Asphalt 9 without any stutter or lags. Will run more tests to compare with other Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and 8+ Gen 1 powered devices in my full review.

Camera

In the camera department, there isn’t any update aside from the primary camera equipped with a bigger sensor which is claimed to perform better in low light. Paired with a 12-megapixels f/2.2 ultrawide with 123˚. Both cameras do 4K video recording at 30fps.

More photos samples on my full review, so far it’s served well for all my casual photos and video taking.

As for the front camera, it used the same 10-megapixels f/2.4 aperture with a fixed focus.

Battery

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G receives a big hit when come to battery life which Samsung focuses the fixing in this iteration. The Galaxy Z Flip4 5G battery is bumped up from 3,300 mAh to 3,700 mAh and it supports faster 25W Adaptive Fast Charging and 15W Wireless Fast Charging.

Throughout the past few days using it, I can get an average of 4 hours of screen-on-time which is just enough to last me until late afternoon.

Overall the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 5G has a pretty positive improvement abide the “safe” facelift. Anyhow, I’ll have a more in-depth review of this device in the coming days where I’ll cover more on the performance, camera, and battery. So stay tuned!

When you buy it from today until 30th September 2022, you will receive an exclusive gift worth RM 1,298 including a Samsung Galaxy Watch4 (40mm, Bluetooth) and Samsung Care+ plus a 1-year extended warranty.
