Xiaomi unveiled the new Xiaomi 12S series “co-engineered with Leica”. This series of smartphones features Leica Summicron lenses and supports Leica imaging profiles.
The top-tier Xiaomi 12S Ultra is equipped with SONY’s newest IMX989 1″ sensor, implemented in a Quad-Bayer pixel array with individual pixel sizes reaching 1.6μm. It is also the first Android device to support Dolby Vision HDR video recording and playback. Features HyperOIS for ultra-stable performance, offering continuous compensation for movement during recording. It’s also paired with last year’s flagship SONY sensors, IMX586 on its ultrawide and the 120mm telephoto.
As for the Xiaomi 12S and 12S Pro will be featuring SONY’s IMX707 as their primary sensor, which incorporates both a large sensor size and large pixels, at 1/1.28″ with 1.22μm native pixels and 2.44μm after pixel binning. The 12S Pro is paired with a 50-megapixels 2x optical zoom camera and a 50-megapixels ultrawide. The vanilla 12S gets a 13-megapixels ultrawide and a 5-megapixels macro lens instead.
The photographer-friendly Xiaomi 12S series supports a 10-bit RAW format calibrated by Adobe Labs, with color correction metadata embedded in the files. When using Adobe Lightroom to open photos shot on Xiaomi 12S series, Adobe Camera RAW software will automatically optimize photos based on metadata, providing professional photographers with a good starting point for post-production.
The trio is powered by the all-new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 mobile platform based on TSMC 4nm process. The Xiaomi 12S Ultra is equipped with a new heat dissipation system, similar to the biological mechanism leaves on a plant may use to absorb water. This 3D cooling pump is designed with a series of channels, which use a capillary network to actively pump cooling liquid condensed at the side opposite warm areas. This greatly improves efficiency and increases the thermal conductivity of a single unit by 100% compared to traditional VC heat dissipation systems.
The Xiaomi 12S Ultra and 12S Pro sport a 6.73″ AMOLED LTPO 2.0 display from Samsung, a Samsung E5 panel that offers max peak brightness at 1,500 nits, WQHD+ resolution P3 color, and 1-120Hz AdaptiveSync Pro. The vanilla 12S gets a slightly smaller 6.28″ FHD+ AMOLED display with support of P3 color, HDR10+, and 120Hz AdaptiveSync.
The Xiaomi 12S Ultra is packed with a 4,860 mAh battery, 12S Pro gets 4,600 mAh and the 12S has a 4,500 mAh battery. The trio supports 67W wired fast charging, 50W wireless fast charging, and 10W reverse wireless charge.
