The Xiaomi Mi 5 that announced early this year has received refresh model, Mi 5s and a larger display Mi 5s Plus. Although the name sound like just an improved model, it features a total new body-design language and hardware.

Mi 5s and the Plus version is powered with nonetheless the latest Qualcomm flagship SoC, Snapdragon 821.

Let’s start off with the Mi 5s. It comes with 2 variants, 3GB RAM + 64GB storage and 4GB RAM + 128GB of UFS 2.0 storage. The Mi 5s now feature ultrasonic fingerprint sensor and it’s the first smartphone that implement the Qualcomm’s Sense ID. It located underneath the home button with glass protection.

Pressure-sensitive like the Huawei Mate S is also implemented on the 5.15-inch FHD Mi 5s but only on the higher 4GB/128GB variant.

A new camera were uses on Mi 5s, the latest 12 megapixel SONY IMX378 camera sensor that were used on the Nexus 6P and HTC 10. Selfie wise it equipped with a 4 megapixel front-facing camera which likely to be the same with the HTC 10. We are putting high hope of good camera capturing on this device.

A 3,200 mAh battery keeps the lights on and support Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 through USB Type-C.

Moving on is the Mi 5s Plus, it has a bigger 5.7-inch FHD display and a bigger battery capacity of 3,800 mAh. Ultrasonic fingerprint scanner and pressure sensitive are missing on this model. But it does compensate it with a whopping RAM size up to 6GB and dual-camera setup like the Huawei P8 and Honor 8. Dual 13 megapixel camera where one of the camera capture colors and the other capture monochromatic.

Like the Mi 5s, the Mi 5s Plus comes with 2 variants; 4GB RAM + 64GB storage and 6GB RAM + 128GB of UFS 2.0 storage.

Here’s the jaw dropping info, price. The Mi 5s with 3GB/64GB will retail for just RMB 1,999 (approx RM 1,239 / US$ 300) and the 4GB/128GB goes for RMB 2,299 (about RM 1,425 / US$ 345). The Mi 5s Plus goes for RMB 2,299 (RM 1,425 / US$ 345) and RMB 2,599 (RM 1,611 or US$ 390) for 4GB/64GB and 6GB/128GB respectively.

All models will be available in Gray, Gold, Silver & Rose Gold. and the first flash sale in China will take place tomorrow, 29th September 2016.
