Xiaomi Announced a New Flagship Smartphone, VR Headset & Concept Smartphone (Soon Available to End-user)

Today Xiaomi has announced not one, not two but three new products that including the new Xiaomi Mi Note 2, VR headset and a concept phone, Mi MIX (not sure why it’s concept when they already set an availability date on 4th November)

Let’s start off with the main highlight product, Mi Note 2.

Mi Note 2 is a refreshment model of the almost 2 years old Mi Note. Yes! A quick glance it does resemble the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 without the S-Pen. The semi-round home button (capacitive touch fingerprint scanner), 5.7-inch OLED display, the dual curved edge glass on the rear and front.

Like others 2016’s flagship device, it powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 with RAM option up to 6GB LPDDR4 and 128GB onboard storage. It features 23 megapixel SONY IMX 312 sensor with assistant of EIS (Electronics Imagine Stabilization) and an 8 megapixel front facing camera.

To keep the lights on, it packed with a 4,070 mAh battery that support Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0

It comes with 2 variants; 4GB LPDDR4 RAM with 64GB onboard storage and 6GB LPDDR4 RAM with 128GB UFS 2.0 storage, also a global version that has Global LTE supports.

• 6GB + 128GB: RMB 3,299 (approx RM 2,022)
• 6GB + 128GB (Global): RMB 3,499 (approx RM 2,144)

Next is the Mi MIX. Mi MIX is a concept phone with an edge-less design and this concept phone is going into mass production.

This is not the first smartphone with the edge-less design. The Sharp Aquos Xx was the first phone to adopt such design and introduced to market (Japan only) mid of last year.

The Mi MIX features a large screen display of 6.4-inch edge-less that has ultra-high 91.3% screen-to-body ratio. The display has a custom 17:9 display that show a larger viewing area compare to the common 16:9 viewing display. It uses full ceramic body; on the back cover, frame and also the side buttons.

So what happened to the earpiece speaker? Mi MIX uses Cantilever piezoelectric ceramic acoustic technology replaces the traditional earpiece speaker, allowing you to listen to call without the earpiece. It’s similar to the Sgnl smart band that has generate vibration of an audio algorithm that selectively amplifies voice signals with proper wavelength and send through the ceramic body.

MIX packed with flagship specification like the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821, up to 6GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 256GB of onboard storage. There is a 4,400 mAh capacity battery packed inside the phone which also support Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0.

Camera wise it get a 16 megapixel rear camera and a 5 megapixel front facing camera that location below/on the Mi MIX’s chin. Fingerprint sensor is located on the rear like and the higher spec Mi MIX get a 18-karat gold rims around the rear camera.

It comes with 2 variants;

• 4GB LPDDR4 + 128GB USF 2.0: RMB 3,499 (about RM 2,143)
• 6GB LPDDR4 + 256GB USF 2.0 (18k): RMB 3,999 (about RM 2,449)

Lastly, Mi VR headset

This is Mi’s new VR headset that has a hardware-level motion sensor that is 16x more sensitive and system optimized with a 16ms ultra-low latency. What it mean? It will give Virtual-Reality experience with much less motion sickness.

It has 9-axis inertal motion control only compatible with Mi devices such as Mi Note 2, Mi 5s, Mi 5s Plus and Mi 5.

The Mi VR is only priced at RMB 199 (approx RM 122) and ready with 500+ panoramic videos, 30+ VR apps and ready 200+ registered developers (Only available in China).

According to Lowyat.net, all these 3 devices will not be coming to Malaysia officially anytime soon but this will not stop parallel import set to bring into Malaysia of course with higher price tags.
