Samsung Introduces Exynos 980 – Samsung First 5G-Integrated SoC

Samsung has just announced its latest mobile processor, the Exynos 980 that integrated with 5G modem and improved NPU in a single chip.

“With the introduction of our 5G modem last year, Samsung has been driving in the 5G revolution and paved the way towards the next step in mobility,” said Ben Hur, vice president of System LSI marketing at Samsung Electronics. “With the 5G-integrated Exynos 980, Samsung is pushing to make 5G more accessible to a wider range of users and continues to lead innovation in the mobile 5G market.”

The new Exynos 980 is built based on 8nm FinFET process technology and packed with dual high-performance Cortex-A77 CPU and hexa power-efficient Cortex-A55 cores. As for GPU, it coupled with top-of-the-line Mali-G76 chipset.

The new mobile supports 2G to 5G networks and provides fast gigabit downlink/uplink. It also supports E-UTRA-NR Dual Connectivity (EN-DC), which combines 2CC LTE and 5G connectivity to maximize mobile downlink speed of up to 3.55Gbps. In addition, it supports Wi-Fi 6 standard, IEEE 802.11ax that firstly introduced on the Samsung Galaxy S10-series.

As for the imaging, the Exynos 980 will be able to support up to 108-megapixels images thanks to the new ISP where it can works up to 5 individual sensors concurrently. Video recording-wise, it supports encoding and decoding 4K UHD video at speedy frame rate of 120 fps as well as HDR+.

The new Samsung Exynos 980 is expected to be available on their smartphone by the end of 2019. Like we will be seeing it on the Samsung Galaxy S11-series
