Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G After 1 Month – Still My Daily Driver?

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G

I have been using the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G as my daily driver since I published my first impression of the device and released a review two weeks after that. It has been close to two months now and this is a follow-up review whether I encounter any problem or reliability issues since foldable is pretty new to a lot of people.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G – Folding Screen

The first question definitely is the folding screen, leave any marks or scratches on the screen? FYI, I was using it with the pre-installed PET film protector which Samsung claimed is 80% more durable and the company advice me to keep it on to avoid any damages to the screen.

Though there are some swirl scratches on the film and no marks despite sometimes I opened it with one hand and using the thumb to push it open. I’m sure the film is durable enough and able to protect the screen from any unwanted damage. I wish Samsung would offer a film replacement service in future, I wouldn’t mind paying for it.

In my review, I did bring up the crease issue on the folding display. Aesthetically it didn’t bother me much except for swiping or playing games that would scroll right between them like Pokemon Go that play in portrait mode. Overall it didn’t give me any unpleasant experience throughout my usage.

Coming to the folding mechanic, the longer I use the more frequent I open and shut the display as I can’t depend on what’s the display cover can show or respond to actions – More on the cover display. I believe I easily hit 60 to 80 times daily and I did not encounter any weird or squeeze noise produces from the hinge. It swivels smoothly while having the same holding retention for the Flex Mode to work.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G – Built

Need to be upfront, I’m a person who put on protection to all my new gadgets (if it’s available) like tempered glass, cases or cover. I did use a RM 5 transparent cover on and I did accidentally dropped it once on a tarmac with the screen open. Besides caught scuffs on the case, the Z Flip3 survived without a dent.

Dents are unavoidable if you plan to use them naked. Worth noting the Corning Gorilla Glass Victus used on it may take a few drops without issue.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G – Performance & Software

I got a confession to make, I’m not a mobile game person and it’s for the usual phone calls, social media and of course media consumption. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G is kinda overkilled for my usage but I wouldn’t mind having extra power for future-proof?

Samsung is building their ecosystem here with a lot of companion devices like their Galaxy Buds2, Galaxy Watch4 series, Galaxy Tab S7 FE and many more that offers a seamless experience between devices. Nothing forget their exclusive services like Samsung Health and Samsung Pay which I can’t live without.

Software updates are promptly and the company also promised 3 years of major software updates and 4 years of security updates. Mean the Galaxy Z Flip3 will get to taste Android 14 before it stops receiving software updates.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G – Camera

I hardly use the front camera even taking selfies, this is thanks to the new larger cover display that I can easily take selfies or even group-fies? If that word exists, you get my point. I can also take photos tripod-less which the phone itself becomes a tripod on its own.

Does Megapixels matter? Although the Galaxy Z Flip3 5G only has a dual 12-megapixels rear camera, it does perform better than any others smartphones that bear 48-megapixel or even 108-megapixels. It’s all about effective of the camera sensor and ISP. It may not win any awards here but the image quality is good or on par with other flagship smartphones out there.

Anyhow, most of the photos taken with smartphones would likely end up on social media which will be compressed.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G – Battery

I still hold up the same thought and view about the battery life. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G 3,330 mAh battery would not able to last a full day of use while only offering a rather slow 15W wired “Fast” charging. I would always end up charging it by 3 pm.

If you have no issue carrying a power bank or have a charging station at your workplace, then this would not be a problem for you.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G – Verdict

Would I still be using the Z Flip3 5G as my daily driver? Yes! There isn’t any smartphone out there that offers such a compact design while delivering flagship performance.

You can own the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G for RM 3,999 or RM 4,199 respectively. It’s also available through major telo with great deals where you can check them out HERE!
