Samsung already announced three new Galaxy A-series for 2023, the Samsung Galaxy A14, Samsung Galaxy A34 5G, and Samsung Galaxy A54 5G.
Gotten the device from Samsung Electronics Malaysia a day after it was announced and here’s my first impression after toying with it for a couple of days.
Samsung doesn’t only streamline its Galaxy S-series design, it was also adopted by the 2023’s Galaxy A-series. The clean matte back cover with individual camera bumps.
The rounded corner plastic frame has some curves that wrapped the “Glastic” matte back cover.
The power and volume buttons are located on the right, the hybrid SIM card slot is at the top, and USB C with a down-firing speaker is found at the bottom. Offers stereo dual speakers with Dolby Atmos support.
The Galaxy A34 5G is IP67 rated for dust and water protection and the display is guarded with Corning Gorilla Glass 5.
Offered in four Awesome colors; Awesome Lime, Awesome Silver, Awesome Violet, and Awesome Graphite.
Sports a large 6.6″ Super AMOLED (1,080 x 2,340) Full HD+ Infinity-U with support of a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. The bezels are slightly thicker compared to the Galaxy S23 series specially the chin bezel.
Boasts up to 1,000 nits of peak brightness and features Vision Booster that increases visibility even under bright sunlight.
The display is a lot brighter compared to its predecessor and the color reproduction is brilliant and vivid as expected from Super AMOLED.
It also features an in-display optical fingerprint scanner that is positioned way too low. Anyhow, the fingerprint scanner is fast and accurate.
Under the hood is a new MediaTek Dimensity 1080 with a 5G modem built-in. It’s a 6nm process octa-core CPU with a clock speed of up to 2.6GHz, paired with ARM Mali-G68 MC4 GPU. Offered in a single configuration, 8GB of memory and 256GB of internal storage.
The performance is on par or maybe better with the popular Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G that is also used on the Samsung Galaxy A73 5G.
Equipped with dual-band Wi-Fi AC and the latest Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity.
Samsung finally took the step of axing the redundant depth sensor while keeping it clean with a triple rear camera system; a 48MP f/1.8 primary camera with Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS), an 8MP f/2.2 fixed focus ultrawide, and a 5MP macro lens. Meanwhile, the dewdrop notch houses a 13MP f/2.4 selfie camera.
The Galaxy A34 5G is also capable to record videos of up to [email protected]. More on the camera performance and photo samples in my full review.
One UI 5.1
The Galaxy A34 5G is shipped with the latest Android 13 overlay on top of Samsung One UI 5.1. It also gets the same software updates treatment as the flagship Galaxy S23 series; 4 years of major OS updates (Android 17) and 5 years of security updates.
Packed with a 5,000mAh battery that supports 25W quick charge. Samsung claims will provide up to two days of use with a single charge.
