LEAGOO Shark 1 is the latest smartphone from Leagoo and it was recently launched here in Malaysia about a month ago. Thanks to LEAGOO Malaysia’s PR, I manage to grab a review unit and below are my review of the unit.

LEAGOO Shark 1 sport a big 6-inch LTPS display with full HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 with pixel density of 368 ppi. It protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and has 2.5D curved edges. The display is bright and color-vibrant thanks to the LTPS (Low Temperature PolySilicon) display. The side bezel of the screen is very narrow, giving the impression of borderless display.

The built is quite sturdy and heavy as well due to the high capacity of battery packed in a slim profile platform. The curvy back case is made from aluminium and high quality polycarbonate bring premium-touch to this device and better hand-grips.

It powered by MediaTek MT6753 1.3GHz Octa-core mated with 3GB of RAM. 16GB onboard storage with availability of microSD card slot for expansion up to 128GB. It also features fingerprint scanner on the rear allow you to unlock your phone with a touch and also work as selfie camera shutter. Did find the fingerprint sensor not as sensitive as others comparing to Samsung Galaxy S7, Redmi Note 3 and Huawei Mate 8.

LEAGOO Shark 1 weighs at 241 grams and measures 158.8 mm in height, 82.8 mm in width and 8.5 mm thickness. This make LEAGOO Shark 1 one of the slimmest profile with biggest battery smartphone in the world.

Battery is the biggest asset of LEAGOO Shark 1. The non-removable 6,300 mAh battery able to give up to 72 hours of talk time, 49 hours of music playing and 770 hours of standby time with single full charge. During the test, I manage to get 2 days of normal usage (single SIM) and 9 hours of SOT with 23% battery balance. The humongous battery allow the device to work as a power bank by reverse charge others devices through OTA dongle (not included)

Fast charger brick is included in the box and capable to provide a whole day use of the device with just 30 minutes of charging. I able to charge the flat battery from 0% to 100% under 3 hours.

The speaker placement is at the rear bottom and the audio playback from the speaker is quite decent.

On the camera department, includes a 13 megapixel SONY Exmor RS IMX214 sensor camera with f/2.8 aperture assist by dual tone LEDs flash for more natural flash photo taking. The front camera feature a 5 megapixel f/2.8 aperture camera with single soft LED flash. It great for selfie taking under low-light.

An Infra-red blaster is also onboard, turning the Shark 1 into an universal remote control. FM radio is also built-in and would required headphone to work as reception. Shark 1 support dual SIM and dual standby, whereby the hybrid second SIM serve as microSD card slot as well.

The camera of Shark 1 is quite decent and acceptable in good light conditions. When comes to low light conditions, the photos then to be grainy and delay in respond when press the shutter button. Not sure it’s the software or the hardware

All the Leagoo smartphone runs on its company own OS, LEAGOO OS. Shark 1 uses the latest LEAGOO OS 1.2 based on Android 5.1. It provide variants of user interfaces and some familiarity theme like from Huawei, Google Launcher and more.

The Leagoo OS also features Float Gesture that is very useful for big display smartphone like Shark 1. It provide quick access to home key, gesture recognition, float video & music, and lock screen.

There are also various options for gesture-based interaction like Smart Gesture (2 fingers swipe, 3 fingers swipe, drawing gesture and more) also Smart Motion menus.

Because of the huge display size, LEAGOO provide customization layout that suitable for one-hand operations like customizable on-screen navigation bar, single-hand dialer and keyboard. The OS itself provide some propriety security software like Visitor Mode (hide call logs, text messages and more other restrictions) and Mobile anti-theft which wipe all sensitive data in case the device is stolen or lost.

Overall the performance of the device is quite decent for a mid range SoC and with more than enough 3GB of RAM. Did encounter some sluggish when launching some heavy apps and games. The fingerprint sensor not that accurate and sensitive. Not really sure the hiccups is from the OS itself or the hardware.

Conclusion

Leagoo Shark is a rather large yet compact smartphone that sports 6-inch FHD diplay and packed with a large capacity of battery. Battery is always a big concern for an user to maximize usage of the device regardless serving as a smartphone or entertainment tablet. We can now have all-in-one device. With the price tag of RM 999, doubt there are any mid-range phablet comes near to Leagoo Shark 1.
