[REVIEW] HUAWEI Band 4e – As Basic As It Get

HUAWEI Malaysia launched a budget fitness tracker last month, the HUAWEI Band 4e. There was a launch promotion at RM 69 instead of the MSRP of RM 119.

HUAWEI Band 4e specification

  • 0.5-inch PMOLED
  • 6-axis Motion Sensor
  • 5ATM Water Resistance
  • Bluetooth V4.2
  • Supports Android 4.4 or newer and iOS 9.0 or newer
  • 77mAh Battery (14-days battery life)
  • Weight 6 gram

Inside the box

It comes with the HUAWEI Band 4e, a wrist strap made of plastic, a shoe buckle and a USB-A charging cradle.

Design & Display

It can be wear as a wristband or clip in it onto your shoe to do the tracking. This is possible thanks to its 6-axis motion sensor. There are a total of 9 running form metrics such as foot strike pattern, landing impact ground contact time, swing angle and more.

HUAWEI Band 4e Shoe Buckle

The Band 4e is made out of polycarbonate which is durable yet light at just 15 grams. It so light sometimes I can’t tell that I wore the smart band.

It features a 0.5-inch PMOLED that supports slide and touch; and a capacity home button at the bottom.

HUAWEI Band 4e PMOLED

The PMOLED display does look outdated and only display basic info; time, steps, distance, calories, alarm, and phone search. If you need in-depth details tracking info, it can only be retrieved from the connected app, the HUAWEI Health app.

Features

The HUAWEI Band 4e’s features are quite undermost which only does motion recording like steps, running, cycling and sports. It seems designed specifically for those who into sports like running and basketball.

It also sends alerts once in every while after you’ve been in the chair for too long.

Battery

Based on the HUAWEI website, Band 4e provides 2 weeks of battery with a single charge. I’ve been using it for almost a week now and I left about 60%.

I’m expecting a longer battery life as its quite a basic tracker without heart rate monitoring nor using any high power consuming display.

Verdict

The HUAWEI Band 4e is so 2018 technology and the price is pretty steep with what it can offer. At this price, there are a lot of options out there including Xiaomi and even the HONOR Band 5 offer a bigger colour OLED display, continuous heart rate monitoring and similar battery life at the same cost.

This smart band is designed for those who are looking for lightweight and simple health tracking.
