The Edifier W800BT that we reviewed early last year has a new successor that ironed up most of the weaknesses. The Edifier W820BT has ditched the plastic slider and felt more solid ever before.

The packing of the headphone is pretty simple, it comes with an AUX male-to-male cable with L-shape on one end, microUSB charging cable, and a user manual. There’s no pouch or case given along.

Design

The concentric circle pattern design on the earcup still retained. The headphone now can be folded and uses a more sturdy aluminium headband slider. The power button now moved alongside with the volume rocker on the right side of the earcup, standardized the design language with other Edifier headphones like the Edifier W830BT and W860NB.

It comes in four colours; White, Black, Red and Rose Gold. I have a white colour and it looks clean and minimalist. Although the top of the overhead band is made out of plastic, it’s a very robust material and I can bend it very wide open without damaging it.

Like its other Edifier Headphones, the padding on the earcups and the overhead band are very soft and plushy. The clamping tension is just right and comfortable.

Inside the ear cups, they labelled “L” and “R” so you can differentiate Left and Right ear cups easily before you put it on.

There’s a 3.5mm audio jack port on the left ear cups for those who preferred a wired connection over wireless or you still able to use it if you didn’t charge it. It features Bluetooth 4.1 and capable to connect up to two devices simultaneously.

Sound Quality

I did find the audio quality has bumped up over the W800BT, the vocal and instruments separation is better now. Bass is less punchy and more pleasurable to listen on Jazz/Blue genre songs.

Battery Life

The dual batteries setup does work as per advertised. With a single charge, the headphone would last me more than two weeks now with about 3-4 hours use every day without showing me any low battery.
