[REVIEW] ASUS Vivobook Pro 16X OLED (M7600) – Drop Dead Gorgeous 4K OLED Display

ASUS brought more fun to their content creator OLED laptops through their Vivobook Pro-series. The Vivobook is marketed as a more budget constraints laptop while offering a lot of perks.

In this review, we will be checking out ASUS’s budget version of the ASUS ProArt Studiobook 16 OLED which I reviewed a few weeks ago.

ASUS Vivobook Pro 16X OLED – Design

It has a grey matte slate back cover and is a fingerprint magnet. There are two small metals on the right side with angled stripes and engraved ASUS Vivobook branding with two hashtags #BeExplorers and #ReadySetGo.

ASUS Vivobook Pro 16X Back Cover

ASUS uses aluminium chassis on this laptop, it’s lightweight and sturdy at 1.95kg with a thickness point of 18.9mm.

The 16-inch 4K OLED has pretty narrow bezels and webcam houses on the top with a physical shutter cover.

When lift opens, you will notice a few more distinctive design elements on the backlit keyboard. Like a bright orange ESC key, the same angled stripes on the Enter key and two tones; black and grey colours uses on the keyboard. It also has a numeric keypad since it’s a 16-inch laptop.

The colour combo reminded me of my favourite mechanical keyboard from Keychron.

The fingerprint scanner is baked into the power button, it’s accurate and fast. Similar to others ASUS Vivobook keyboards, it’s responsive and tactile.

The touchpad is huge and incorporates with ASUS DialPad that works exactly the same as the ProArt Studiobook 16 OLED. Instead of a physical knob, it’s a touchpad where it gets activated by swiping diagonally from the upper corner of the touchpad that has a small circle logo – More on the DialPad.

To be honest, it’s a love and hate design as it’s very subjective, some may like it some may not. Personally, I’m into this design and I do appreciate differences in looks compared to other laptops out there.

ASUS Vivobook Pro 16X OLED – ASUS DialPad

By default, the DialPad controls the display brightness and volume by swiping around it.

You will get the most out of the DialPad by using the supported Adobe Creative Cloud programs like Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom Classic, Premiere Pro and After Effects. It doesn’t feel as good as the ProArt Studiobook 16 OLED without the dialler edge texture, it gets the work done and precise.

The ASUS Dial is fully customizable through the ProArt Creator Hub to meet your workflow need.

ASUS Vivobook Pro 16X OLED – Ports & Connectivity

Coming to ports and connectivity; there are two USB A 2.0 on the left.

While on the right there is a barrel charger, a USB A 3.2 Gen 1, HDMI 1.4, USB C 3.2 Gen 1, a microSD card reader and a 3.5mm combo audio port. The USB C doesn’t support Power Delivery nor display output, which is a bummer.

It is also equipped with Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0.

ASUS Vivobook Pro 16X OLED – 4K OLED Display & HARMAN KARDON

Since ASUS marketed the Vivobook Pro 16X OLED as a content creator laptop, they include their most premium display. A 3,840 x 2,400 4K OLED display that is said to be 100% DCI-P3, 133% sRGB colour gamut and its PANTONE & VESA Display HDR500 True Black certified display.

From my naked eyes, the inky OLED blacks are excellent for content creation as well as consumption. As you can expect from ASUS OLED, it’s sharp, vibrant and beautiful.

The beautiful display is also paired with world-renowned sound, HARMAN KARDON which delivers strong and punchy sound even at top volume.

ASUS Vivobook Pro 16X OLED – Performance & User Experience

If you are here for the performance, you won’t be disappointed. It earns its “Pro” title with powerful hardware including AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX, an Octa cores processor with tons of power, especially in multithreaded demand needs.

Paired with NVIDIA Studio badged NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050Ti or 3050. The rest are soldered 16GB of DDR4 and 512GB NVMe Gen3.

This makes the Vivobook Pro 16X OLED a decent gaming laptop with DLSS supports.

Here are some benchmark test results of the ASUS Vivobook Pro 16X with 3050Ti

Personally, the heaviest program that I use as a content creator is Adobe Premiere Pro. With the NVIDIA Studio Drivers built specifically for creators, Adobe applications are well optimized with optimal levels of performance and reliability.

Video scrubbing, render and exporting are effortless. The fans did speed up with noticeable noise when come to processor demanding tasks. Other than that, editing video on the Vivobook Pro 16X OLED is enjoyable.

ASUS Vivobook Pro 16X OLED – Battery Life

The laptop is packed with a behemoth 96Whr battery and offers stunning battery life even I worked for 3 hours of intensive workloads and I am still left with a 30% battery.

Casual use of this laptop can easily last me a full day with at least 12 to 13 hours.

ASUS Vivobook Pro 16X OLED – Price & Where to buy

The ASUS Vivobook Pro 16X OLED is priced from RM 5,999 to RM 6,499 for Ryzen 7 5800HX paired with RTX3050 and Ryzen 9 5900HX paired with RTX3050Ti respectively. Both are configured with non-expandable 16GB of DDR4 RAM and single slot 512GB NVMe Gen3 SSD storage.

Thinking more about it, the Vivobook Pro 16X OLED can do more than just a content creator laptop, it’s an all-rounder laptop for creators, gaming and even work as it offers a longevity battery life.

Still, it’s not perfect. The Vivobook Pro 16X OLED still lacks modern ports such as Thunderbolt-like USB C that support Power Delivery and Display out. Besides that, it has all the high-speed USB ports on the right side, which creates an issue if I need to connect to a high-speed drive for editing and using the mouse on a cramped table. It’s gonna be very awkward.

Other than that, the ASUS Vivobook Pro 16X OLED is an amazing 16 inch 4K OLED content creator laptop that you can’t get at this price range.
