[REVIEW] ASUS BR1100F – Educational-Focus Laptop for Kids

I kid you not (puns intended), this laptop is design for kids and here’s my review of the ASUS BR1100F a convertible laptop.

This laptop is designed with kids abuse in mind with all rounded rubber corners and made entirely with high-quality polycarbonate plastic. It even surpasses demanding US military-grade MIL-STD-810H durability standards and torture-tested.  The BR1100F can withstand occasional drops of up to 120 cm and the hinge and I/O ports are fully tested to endure the stresses and strains of everyday use.

On the back cover, it has a 3D micro-dimpled finish that add grip while worry-free about scratches or fingerprint.

Open up the lids, I was welcome with an 11.6-inch HD IPS display panel with 1,024 x 768 resolution. Not the highest resolution but the picture quality is pretty good. It’s a glossy touch display with active stylus support and there’s even a slot for it to charge.

There are two cameras built-in on this laptop, one is on the top of the display for online classes and video calls. It also comes with a privacy shutter cover. While the second camera locates above the keyboard and to be used in tablet mode to record what’s on the whiteboard or shared in the class.

Coming to the keyboard, it a spill-resistant in case your children accidentally pour some juice or water onto the laptop. It even features gap-free keycaps to minimize the keys from pried out by accident. ASUS even goes further by adding antibacterial treatment on the keyboard with ASUS BacGuard, an Internationally-recognized ISO 22196 standard.

Being convertible, you can have it in three modes; Laptop, Tent and Tablet modes.

Connectivity and expansion on the ASUS BR1100F are pretty complete with 2x USB Type-A (1x USB 2.0 and 1x USB 3.2 Gen1), 1x Full-sized HDMI 1.4, 1x USB C (Power Delivery support), 1x Gigabit LAN port and 1x 3.5mm combo audio jack. The ASUS BR1100F has a modular design that allows key components able to be replaced in minutes with basic tools. The key components like battery, keyboard, thermal module and I/O ports. When I try to dismantle it, I noticed that there’s an empty M.2 SSD slot for storage expansion.

Since this laptop is designed for school, the internal is pretty basic with Intel Celeron N4500 processor, 4GB of RAM, 128GB eMMC storage and pre-loaded with Microsoft Windows 10 Professional. It’s actually more than enough for basic day-to-day word processing, browsing and even media streaming and playback.

Generally speaking, this laptop isn’t meant to run heavy tasks, it manages to clock close 10-hours of battery life with my test which mainly Microsoft Edge browsing and Spotify music play. It can be charged through the provided 45W output charger or the more common USB C Power Delivery in case you left it at home.
