Xiaomi is entering the gaming phone market by backed in Black Shark Technologies, a Chinese gaming company just like Xiaomi invest into few others startup company like Yi, Snoppa, 70mai and more.
The Black Shark is heavily inspired by the Razor Phone styled in Black and Green IMHO. Under the hood are the flagship specs; Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, up to 8GB of RAM, 128GB onboard storage, 5.99-inch 2:1 ratio display, stereo front-facing speaker, and beefy 4,000 mAh battery. Not forgotten, it also comes with a front-facing microphone for easier communication in multiplayer games.
The display is at 1,080p resolutions and there was no mention of high refresh rate display unlike the Razer Phone featuring 120Hz. There’s an attachable analog stick controller that can snap onto the top of the screen which Razer lack of.
The Black Shark get “liquid cooling” solutions that use heat-pipe style cooling where the company claimed reductions temperature of 8-degrees Celsius.
Camera wise is a Dual Rear camera setup; 12-megapixels RGB sensor and 20-megapixel Monochrome, as for the front camera is a 20-megapixel f/2.2 wide angle camera.
Despite the gaming phones are still young and niche, with the more accessible prices and growing PC gaming to mobile, likes the PUBG Mobile, Fortnite Mobile, and some others overwhelming mobile games it would make sense to introduce gaming phone to the markets.
The Black Shark is available to pre-order now in China for RMB 2,999 (about RM 1,855) for 6GB of RAM and 64GB storage where the higher spec; 8GB of RAM and 128GB storage is set for RMB 3,499 (approx RM 2,164). It smartphone ship in two color options; Polar Night and Sky Grey. This makes it the most affordable Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 powered smartphone for now.
