[MWC 2016] Samsung Galaxy S7 & S7 edge. The Return of microSD Card Slot

Today Samsung has unveiled its new flagship smartphone, Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge.

You may find the new Galaxy S7 models look identical with the current Galaxy S6 and S6 edge+ because of retaining the same material built; metal and glass.

When the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge announced, there were few complaints like missing microSD card slot, small battery capacity and poor edge screen functionality.

The new Galaxy S7 and S7 edge has fine tune all the amissed functionality and feature.

Both of the new devices powered with the latest Samsung Exynos 8890 (Quad-core 2.15GHz + Quad-core 1.6GHz processor) for international variant and the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 (Quad 2.2GHz processor) for US market. S7 mated with 4GB of RAM and come with 32GB of internal storage. Why only 32GB? It’s not an issue anymore as both will have microSD card slot that support up to 200GB.

GS7 support dual SIM (nano SIM) and the SIM2 works as second SIM card or microSD storage expansion.

The GS7 and GS7 edge are now IP68 certified where it now dust resistant and water resistant like the SONY Xperia Z. You don’t have to worry about splashes or getting your phone wet in the rain,

The Galaxy S7 featuring 5.1-inch Super AMOLED QHD display (2,560 x 1440) display and the Galaxy S7 edge get a bigger 5.5-inch Super AMOLED QHD display. There is a new feature of always-on screen technology that display time, weathers, notifications and more

Camera wise it get lower resolution comparing to the S6 with 12 megapixel camera featuring new large 1/2.6′ sensor size, 1.4 µm pixel size and f/1.7 aperture lens. The sensor is quite similar with the Nexus 6P but with better camera software and lens. As for selfie, it packed with a 5 megapixel wide aperture f/1.7 lens for better low light photo/video taking.

For software,the S7 models are running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Samsung’s TouchWiz interface. There are few new improvement on the S7 edge swipe functions and the new Always-on display.

The physical home button work as fingerprint reader and naturally it works for Samsung Pay

Samsung has increased the size of the phone’s battery capacity where the S6 and S6 edge suffered lack of battery life. The GS7 packed with 3,000 mAh battery where the GS7 edge get 3,600 mAh battery

Both of the device retain Samsung’s adaptive fast wired charging and as well fast wireless charging.

The Galaxy S7 come in black or gold where the S7 edge come in black, gold, white and silver option.

The Galaxy S7 and S7 edge will be available in the US starting 11th March 2016 and the pre-order begin tomorrow, 23rd February 2016. Samsung is offering a free Gear VR with every purchase of the S7 or S7 edge for the early adopters. The pricing for the new models should be in line with last year’s phones launch.
