MediaTek Helio P80 Topped-off HUAWEI Kirin 980 on A.I. Benchmark Tests

The processor that having dedicated NPUs (Neural Processing Units) driven the mobile A.I. platform, which enabled cloud-based A.I. that runs alongside with CPU and GPU. This provides improved UI, personalized data and as well as speed performance.

An A.I. Benchmark research company has listed performance ranking A.I benchmark test on the latest SoC including HUAWEI HiSilicon Kirin 980 and Qualcomm Snapdragon 845. All the data was obtained from an A.I. Benchmark app which available to download on the Google Play Store. So far there were over 10,000 installs that submitted the test results.

In the list, we found out that the top spots are Qualcomm 8150/Snapdragon 855 and MediaTek Helio P80. These two are the developer platform unit and are unreleased chipset but rumors Samsung Galaxy S10 will be powered by Snapdragon 855 and OPPO R19 will be the first to packed MediaTek Helio P80.

What catches my eye is the MediaTek Helio P80, Helio P-series is actually mid-range SoC by the company. MediaTek seems has given up on the high-end chipset market which in their Helio X-series chipset.

The benchmark tests consist of 9 computer vision A.I. tasks;

  • Object Recognition / Classification 224 x 224
  • Object Recognition / Classification 346 x 346
  • Face Recognition 512 x 512
  • Image Deblurring 300 x 300
  • Image Super-Resolution 192 x 192
  • Image Super-Resolution 512 x 512
  • Semantic Image Segmentation 384 x 576
  • Photo Enhancement 128 x 192
  • Memory Limits 2,240 x 1,680

From this we can tell, performance smartphone may go further affordable if MediaTek really penetrates further into mid-range market with this new chipset.
