Google Ditched Nexus, Welcoming Pixel!

Today is a big day for Google, unveiling a series of new products includes two new phone, Pixel & Pixel XL, a new VR headset (Daydream), Google WiFi, Google Home and Google Chromecast Ultra.

Google Pixel is the first Google phone to carry exclusively Google branding and claimed its the first phone made by Google inside and out despite two devices are built by HTC.

Both Pixels models are powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor and equipped with 4GB of RAM. Like it others Google Nexus phone, it run on Google’s latest Android and this time its 7.1 Nougat out-of-box.

Design wise, both Pixel are made out of aluminium and a glass window on the back along with camera, flash and fingerprint sensor (Pixel Imprint). The only different between the Pixel and Pixel XL are display and battery capacity. Pixel sports a 5-inch FHD AMOLED display and has a 2,770 mAh battery where the Pixel XL has a bigger display at 5.5-inch QHD AMOLED and 3,450 mAh battery.

USB Type-C with fast charging, Bluetooth 4.2 and 3.5mm audio headphone jack come as standard on both device. You got a choice of 32GB or 128GB of onboard storage with no expandable storage slot.

There are five highlight features on the new Pixel phones;

First Daydream-compatible Phone. Google announced the Daydream VR headset for the Pixel and as well others upcoming new Daydream VR compatible phone.

Pixel & Pixel XL has the highest DxOMark score. Ousted all others mobile smartphone including the Galaxy S7 edge, HTC 10 and iPhone 7. It has a 12.3 megapixel resolution with large 1.55-micron pixel camera sensor. Google even claims that its new camera has “the shortest capture time on any mobile camera ever”. Despite it has no hardware optical image stabilization it rely on gyroscope-based stabilization.

Google Assistant. Pixel is the first phone with the new Google Assistant built in. When you press and hold the home button or say the “hot word” the assistant will jumps into action. It’s similar to Apple’s SIRI and integrates with the Google Now on Tap function by swiping up with more information on the screen.

24/7 live phone support. Google has also built in 24 hours live phone support right into the Pixel’s software where a tech support operator can see whats on your screen and assist you better.

Endless Cloud Storage with Google Photos. Google offers exclusive unlimited storage for original/full-resolution image and videos backup on Google Photos.

The Pixel price starts at US$ 649 for the 5-inch with 32GB storage follow by US$ 749 with 128GB storage. For the larger Pixel XL is priced at US$ 769 and US$ 869 for 32GB and 128GB respectively.

The available colors name is quite catchy; Quite Black, Very Silver and an exclusive color Really Blue. The pre-order start today in selected country and no words the availability in Malaysia.
