Design & Fitting

The case reminded me of the Edifier TWS2 that has a matte case which I much appreciated. It doesn’t only catch fewer fingerprint smudges, it looks way more standout and premium than others, TWS out there. The size of the case is physically larger than other earbuds in the market, but it’s still pocketable with round corners and lightweight.

The earbuds’ case has an LED indicator on the front that shows the battery level and it will set up whenever the case lid is open and closed. The back of the case is microUSB port that charge the earphone, which is a bummer.

These earbuds fitting are great, it has a secure fit and comfortable once you picked the right size of the ear tips. It has an IPX5 rating thus its should be good enough for workout usage that exposed at sweat and splash. Still, IPX5 is just sweat and splash resistant, you would want to avoid any prolonged exposure or submersion in water.

The controls are pretty much basic and straightforward;

  • Single Press – Play/Pause or Answer Call
  • Double Press – Previous (Left Earbuds) / Next (Right Earbuds)
  • Press and Hold – Reject Call

No volume control option nor summon the voice assistant where at least you can control volume with a voice command.

Pairing

As the earbuds can work individually, the pairing can be done just the left or the right side. You may add both so it will auto-connect to your device when you take out from the charging case.

To pair is pretty simple, take out any side of the earbud, tap and hold; the LED on the earbud will blink rapidly between red and blue. Turn your phone’s Bluetooth setting and connect Edifier TWS5. Then pair the other side of the earbud if required.

Sound Performance

It uses binaural simultaneous Bluetooth transmission. Meaning each earbud connect your device individually and offers a much stable and less latency regardless it is gaming, video streaming or music playback. You can even use any side of the earbuds individually.

Personally I find TWS5 focuses on the mid-tone and offers a crisp clear high. The soundstage is very wide where vocal and instruments sound is pretty well separated. It has a broad range of sounds than any other TWS that I have tested so far.

The low was enough that didn’t overwrite the clear mid and low tones. To my ears, it produces clean and well-balanced sounds which I love it so much regardless in music and video streaming.

Battery

The battery in the earbuds and case is enormous and it offers over 32 hours of music playback with just a single charge. It can easily last me near 2 weeks with daily 2 – 3 hours of usage.

Verdict

Despite the Edifier TWS5 still featuring microUSB port for charging, limited touch-control input and slight bulky in size (both earbuds and case) but the great sound performance has outshine all its flaws. It may carry a slight premium price point but its well spent. The Edifier TWS5 is much more capable in handling more sundry set of genres. Not forgetting the mammoth size battery that offers over 30 hours of music playback.
