Edifier TWS1 Magnetic Case

The Edifier TWS1 has a more compact magnetic charging case and uses a cheaper kind of shiny plastic. It does pick up fingerprint smush and swirl marks easily. It has a single red LED built in front of the case that indicate the battery level and charging condition.

Battery & Charging Indicator

It has 3 levels of battery life

  • 1 blink = 33%
  • 2 blinks = 34% – 66%
  • 3 blinks = 67% to 100%

When it charges, the LED light will be still and once fully charge the LED light will off. It only takes 1 and a half hours to fully charge and can deliver up to 32 hours (8 hours on earbuds + 24 hours with case)

The earbuds will automatically on and connect when you take out the earbuds from the case. It will disconnect and power off when you place back the earbuds in the case.

There are no physical buttons on the earbuds instead it has capacitive touch on both sides.

  • Single Tap (Left/Right) – Play/Pause/Answer/End Calls
  • Double Tap (Left/Right) – Next
  • Triple Tap (Left/Right) – Previous
  • Tap-hold 2 Seconds (Left)- Disconnect
  • Tap-hold 5 Seconds (Left) – Pairing

There’s an LED located on each earbud; blue indicated it’s on/paired, red means low in battery and pairing mode it will show blue & red blinks rapidly.

Not everyone has the same ear canal size, thus it comes with three sizes of ear tips for a better fit. Afterall this earbuds meant to be fit firmly in-ear so it would drop out even using it for intensive exercise like jogging. Wish has a way to adjust the volume without the need to take out my phone.

Pairing

Unlike Edifier TWS2 that we reviewed a few months ago, the TWS 1 doesn’t work individually and it required the left side of the earbud to do the pairing and disconnection. Pairing is pretty easy and straightforward, take out the left side of the earbud and tap-hold for 5 seconds. The LED will blink rapidly between red and blue. Turn on your phone’s Bluetooth settings and scan for Edifier TWS 1.

Once the pairing is successful, it will automatically pair whenever you take out the left earbud and the right earbud will pair itself along with it. Not too sure was it because Edifier uses Qualcomm aptX instead the common CSR that found on the TWS2. It still works with one side which only limited to the left, so make sure you don’t lose the left pair.

Sound Quality (aptX)

aptX does make a huge difference in terms of sound quality. It doesn’t only provide enough bass, the vocals and instruments sounds are pretty well separated in details. Compared it with the Redmi Airdots, the TWS1 has upper hands in term of solid bass and clarity.

The Bluetooth 5.0 connection is pretty stable and so far I have been using it for over a week now as my daily earbuds, I never encountered any disconnection or drop calls.

Battery Life

Throughout a week of the test, about 2 hours use per day I’m still getting 2 blinks (should be around 30% to 40% left) The earbuds can last more than 8 hours without any charge via the charging case.

The charging time is only 1 and a half hours to complete and it can easily last you a week or two.

Verdict

For the price of RM 159, the Edifier TWS1 is the most affordable True Wireless Earbuds that features aptX. It has stamina 32-hours battery life that you would appreciate. The only downside is the cheap glossy plastic uses on the case which tends to catch swirl marks easily. If you are choosing between the white or black, the white would be a great option as the fingerprint smudge and swirl wouldn’t look that obvious.
