Wireless charger is nothing new ever since Android device comes with in-built Qi Wireless Charge support. With this new feature adopted by the new iPhone, the wireless charging approach boosted up the manufacturer to perfected it and also improvised it better.
The Qi Wireless is one of the most widely used standards where the supported devices required to place on a pad to allow it to works.
A new startup company called “Pi” claimed to come-out with a new product that allows a truly contact-less wireless charging. It works on the resonant induction technology present in the Qi standard like on the Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 edge, S8. S8+ and as well on the new iPhone 8/8Plus and the iPhone X without the need of special accessories.
The rounded-cone pod is able to charge up to 4 devices at the same time with a maximum speed of 10W. You just need to place your devices within 30 cm or 12 inches from the Pi Pod Station.
This is achieved via a beam-forming algorithm that allows the pod to control and shape the direction of magnetic fields for charging.
If this technology works and mature enough, we may see this technology to be integrated into future smart speaker like Google Home.
