ASUS ZenWatch Receiving Android 5.1.1 Lollipop Update

Own an ASUS ZenWatch? Good news for you! Remember the new Android Wear major update announced by Google? It’s finally here and ASUS ZenWatch is the second Android Wear device to receive the update after LG Watch Urbane.

The Android 5.1.1 Lollipop is a quite big update for Android Wear smartwatches. It comes with support of always-on apps, the ability to draw emojis to reply, a new navigation gestures. One of the most particular and important new feature in the new Android Wear update is the WiFi. Unfortunately ASUS ZenWatch lack of WiFi radios. The WiFi feature allows users leave their phone behind (has data connection) and still get notifications, send messages and use all your favourite apps while in range of wireless network.

Currently the available WiFi radio on Android Wear Smartwatches:

  • Moto 360
  • Sony SmartWatch 3
  • Samsung Gear Live
  • LG Watch Urbane

The new update are rolling out to all ASUS ZenWatch globally and it may take a while before your device get the OTA update. You will be notified when the update are available or you can manually check the updates by swipe down on the watch face, then swipe to Settings, tap on About and tap on System Updates.
