Few hours ago, Apple’s WWDC 2015 conference has officially unveiled Apple’s latest OS, iOS 9. Apple claims this will be the “most advanced” mobile operating system with a refined, proactive and intelligent successor to last year’s iOS 8.
Here are some improvements:
Siri Grows Smarter & Prettier
Siri now grow 40% faster and capable of returning 40% more accurate result. Siri will be capable to handle more kinds of requests than ever. Siri will be able to search for photos and videos taken on specific day and or at given locations. Siri will be getting a fresh new and more colorful user interface as well.
iOS Gets Proactive
The OS is taking number of variables such as time and date, location and type of connection available. With these data, iOS 9 will respond and react to your needs, Eg: If you use a certain app regularly at specific times of the day, the iOS will ask you if you want to open it at that specific time. When you have an appointment at a certain location coming up, iOS will take into account traffic conditions to calculate when you need to leave to get there on time.
New Spotlight Search
The spotlight search will be accessible by pull-down gesture and provide you helpful shortcuts and recommendations are intelligently organized. Recent and frequently needed contact along wit apps you’ve last used will appear there. Searching for places of interest nearby is easier by one-click process.
What about private data and the search history? Apple reassured that iOS users are in control of their data and queries are not associated with user’s Apple ID and aren’t being shared with third parties.
Multitasking, Split View & Slide Over
Split view has been introduced in this new OS with it option to run apps side-by-side instead switching back and forth between them. Both apps are acted simultaneously and can even have items dragged and dropped back and forth. Picture in picture mode introduced, where you’ll be able to enjoy video playing on top of others apps.
There is also Slide Over features where user will be able ot launch a second app without clossing the app they’re already in.
These new multitask features will be only be found on the iPad Air 2. Slide Over and Picture in picture features will be made available on the iPad Air, iPad Air 2, iPad mini 2 and iPad mini 3. Sorry not available for smaller screen such as iPhone and iPod.
Battery Life & Performance Improvement
Battery life has been a nightmare for most iPhone owners. iOS 9 apps work together with Metal to provides lowest-overhead access to the GPU for smoother and responsive graphics. In result faster scrolling, smoother animation and better performance across iOS. At the same time, battery consumption in iOS has been optimized and promised to add up to another hour of usage to your device.
Apple Maps
Apple Maps has enhanced with new Transit view including directions for public transportation like buses, trains, subways and ferries. All these new transit view will be available in Baltimore, Berlin, Chicago, London, Mexico City, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Toronto and Washington DC. In addition transit information will be available in 300 cities throughout China.
Notes. You Can Now Note Down
Notes has polished up that now supporting easy-to-generate to-do checklists and ability to draw sketches inside your note. On top of that, you may access the camera to add visual notes. Contect from Maps, Safari and others app can be imported directly into Notes as well.
