[REVIEW] Kingston NV3 – Budget Performance SSD

Kingston NV2 NVMe SSD is one of the best-selling PCIe Gen 4 SSDs on the market because of its good enough performance and paired with excellent pricing.

Kingston released its predecessor, the Kingston NV3 NVMe SSD, which offers even better performance while keeping it budget-friendly.

Let’s clear the air by listing the specifications and differences between the Kingston NV2 and NV3.

Both offer up to 2TB of storage, PCIe 4.0 interface, and DRAM-less. The main difference is the sequential read-write speeds that almost doubled the performance.

The review unit I received from Kingston is a 2TB variant with two 1TB QLC NAND chips and a Silicon Motion SM2268XT2G controller.

Now, does the NV3 live up to the 6,000MB/s read and 5,000MB/s write claim?

Based on Crystal Disk Mark, it offer more than what it advertised with 6,250MB/s read and 5,787MB/s which are pretty impressive for a SSD at this price point.

With a DRAM-less SSD, we can expect a significant drop in sustained write speed once it hits its maximum threshold. This test creates an intense write load, which is not something most people typically do, such as transferring multiple massive files at once.

Verdict

The Kingston NV3 took the baton from the NV2 by setting a bar higher in offering better performance SSD while keeping the price affordable. It’s an excellent choice for storage expansion or as a secondary drive for gaming. So it well deserved to receive great value award from us
