Samsung Electronics, a Worldwide Olympic and Paralympic Partner, has announced a groundbreaking collaboration with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS) to transform the broadcast experience for the Paris 2024 Games. Leveraging the advanced capabilities of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, new and unique footage will bring viewers unprecedented coverage of the historic Opening Ceremony on the Seine River and the Olympic sailing competitions.
As the Official Smartphone and Computing Equipment Partner of the Games, Samsung will utilize its cutting-edge mobile technology and 5G connectivity to offer a more immersive perspective of these iconic events. This innovation aligns with Paris 2024’s goal of being the most accessible Games ever and reinforces Samsung’s legacy of supporting the Olympic and Paralympic Games through technological advancements.
Stephanie Choi, EVP & Head of Marketing of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics, highlighted the significance of this partnership: “Samsung Galaxy mobile technology has deepened users’ connections with the world. We are honored to work with the IOC and OBS to provide high-quality footage that will bring fans closer to the excitement of Paris 2024.“
The Opening Ceremony, taking place outside a stadium for the first time, will feature 10,500 athletes parading down the Seine River. Samsung will equip over 200 Galaxy S24 Ultra smartphones on the 85 athlete vessels, capturing high-quality HDR footage streamed via a private 5G network powered by Orange. This collaboration with Orange, the official mobile network provider of Paris 2024, includes the installation of over a dozen 5G antennas along the Seine to ensure seamless connectivity.
Samsung will also use the Galaxy S24 Ultra to cover the sailing competitions in Marseille, allowing fans to experience the thrill of the race alongside their favorite athletes. This effort involved extensive research, development, and testing to ensure video quality and connectivity, leveraging the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and increasing transmission power.
Yiannis Exarchos, CEO of OBS, expressed excitement about the partnership: “Samsung’s mobile innovation will offer a unique perspective of Paris 2024, allowing millions of fans worldwide to experience the Games’ spirit, action, and emotion in real-time.”
Samsung’s commitment to the Olympic Games dates back to 1998, with initiatives like the ‘Call Home’ program and the Wireless Olympic Works (WOW) app, which revolutionized how athletes and fans connected during the Games. This latest announcement marks the next phase in Samsung’s efforts to enhance the digital experience for athletes, fans, and communities at the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Further details on Samsung’s technological contributions to Paris 2024 will be revealed in the coming weeks.
