After Google announced teaming up with Samsung in unifying user experience on wearables, Samsung released its first Wear OS powered smartwatch, the Samsung Galaxy Watch4-series. This is a pretty big deal in my opinion as you know, Google is a giant software company where Samsung make pretty premium yet good hardware but just lacking Google services access with their Tizen OS powered devices.
Here are 5 reasons, why the Samsung Galaxy Watch4 should be your next Android smartwatch
1. Samsung Galaxy Watch4 – Design
Without a doubt, Samsung makes great hardware including their Galaxy Watch. This year, Samsung released two designs and four sizes of smartwatches; the Galaxy Watch4 (40mm & 44mm) and Galaxy Watch4 Classic (42mm & 46mm). Both get the same display sizes, either a 1.2-inch or 1.4-inch AMOLED display.
It has a stunning design that could easily meet your casual, sport and even business OOTD. The 20mm strap can be swap out easily to any standard watch strap.
Only premium hardware was uses on these watches; Stainless steel (Classic) or Armor Aluminium (on standard Watch4), Corning Gorilla Glass DX+, AMOLED display, powerful 5nm Exynos W920 processor, High Precision GPS, Dual-band Wi-Fi, 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB internal storage.
2. Samsung Galaxy Watch4 – Ecosystem & Third Party Apps
With the new Google Wear OS, the Galaxy Watch4 is now able to access a huge ecosystem of apps and services. There are more can be done from your wrist with the Galaxy Watch4; like Google Maps navigation, listen to songs on YouTube Music and third-party apps discovery through Google Play. There are a lot of leading third-party apps like Spotify, Strava, Adidas, Nike, Telegram, Gboard (Yes, keyboard for your watch) and many more.
Just like the interchangeable strap, the Watch Faces are limitless and there are a lot good looking Watch Faces that’s are free. Some of the Watch Faces can be further be customized to your preference.
By having the Galaxy Watch4 on your wrist, it can do 50% or more tasks without the need to pick up your smartphone. Eg: Answering calls with the built-in speaker and microphone, reading and replying to messaging apps, routes navigation, check appointments or schedules and many more.
3. Samsung Galaxy Watch4 – Samsung Pay
We are now in the era of contactless payment and by having our smartphone** we can now make payment by a simple wave on the payment terminal.
With the Samsung Pay on the Galaxy Watch4, I don’t even need to pull out my phone to make payment. All can be done on the smartwatch itself. If you prefer Google Pay, you can enable that by installing it via Google Play Store for Watch.
**Only selected NFC Payment supported devices
4. Samsung Galaxy Watch4 – Advanced Health Sensors & Fitness Companion
For the first time, an advanced Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) was equipped on a watch with Samsung’s newest 3-in-1 BioActive Sensors. The sensor also includes an Optical Heart Rate sensor and Electrocardiogram (ECG)***.
By using the BIA, the Galaxy Watch4 is able to give you in-depth key fitness metrics such as skeletal muscle, basal metabolic rate, body water and fat percentage.
All the health and fitness tracking is handled by the comprehensive Samsung Health app. It will track 95 different activities covering from all basics to niche activities. It also gets automated workout detection just in case you forgot to activate that.
The Galaxy Watch4 can be your music player companion for running without the need to bring along your smartphone. It can play songs that are stored in the watch or offline Spotify songs by pairing with a wireless earbud/earphone.
**Currently the ECG and Blood Pressure monitoring are not available in Malaysia.
5. Samsung Galaxy Watch4 – Fall Detection
The Galaxy Watch4 series can detect hard fall by using the accelerometer. Once it detected a hard fall, the smartwatch will ring for a minute, and if there’s no response, it will send an SOS message to the listed emergency contact with your location. This is very helpful especially for the elderly who stay alone or anyone who required medical attention.
