Design

The HONOR 400 Pro doesn’t fall short in terms of build and design. If I were blindfolded and handed the device, I’d easily mistake it for a flagship phone. The glass-sandwiched, pebble-like shape makes it very comfortable to hold.

The bezels are impressively narrow, thanks to the quad curved display, resulting minimal viewing distortion. While some love and others hate curved displays, I found UX gesture navigation to feel more intuitive.

On the back, the Tidal Blue variant I have here is probably the most unique. I compared it with other HONOR 400 Pro units, and the marble veining patterns differ slightly on each, adding a distinct touch. I’m not a huge fan of the trapezoidal camera island bump, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

The phone features stereo dual speakers that get impressively loud without distortion. With so many smart home devices still using IR, I was glad to see HONOR retain the IR blaster; it lets me control ceiling fans, air conditioners, and TVs around the house.

All the buttons are located on the right side, and the SIM tray is at the bottom next to the USB-C port. There’s no microSD card slot, but with 512GB of storage, most users won’t feel limited.

Display

Although the OLED display is slightly smaller (by just 0.08 inches) than its predecessor, it receives a serious spec bump. It now offers a brighter 5,000 nits HDR peak brightness and a sharper 2800 × 1280 resolution. The refresh rate is still 120Hz, switching dynamically between 60Hz and 120Hz.

It’s a high-quality, razor-sharp panel that excels in displaying HDR content. This optical under-display fingerprint scanner is probably one of the fastest I’ve used, rivaling even ultrasonic options.

The top pill-shaped cutout sits a 50MP front-facing camera alongside a 3D depth sensor. This not only delivers excellent selfies but also enables more accurate and secure facial recognition.

Camera

AI imaging is one of the phone’s main selling points, backed by a solid hardware setup. The primary camera features a 200MP 1/1.4″ sensor with a wide f/1.9 aperture. It’s accompanied by a 12MP ultrawide camera that doubles as a macro lens. Rounding out the trio is a 50MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom and AI Zoom, allowing surprisingly sharp results even up to 50x.

I’ve used it extensively during my trip to COMPUTEX 2025 and am confident in its performance. Photos are vibrant and social-media-ready, with minimal need for editing. You can choose from Natural, Vivid, or Authentic color modes to suit your style. In many ways, the camera reminds me of the HUAWEI P series, the images are processed for maximum visual impact.

AI Imaging

One of the standout features of the HONOR 400 series is its advanced AI imaging tools for both photos and videos.

  • AI Eraser: Easily removes unwanted objects, passersby, or even reflections from photos.
  • AI Upscale: Enhances low-resolution images—great for old or web-downloaded photos.
  • AI Outpainting: Uses generative fill to extend and recreate missing parts of an image.
  • AI Cutout: Lets you isolate subjects and place them on transparent, solid color, or custom backgrounds.
  • AI Image to Video: Transforms static images into 5-second, AI-generated videos using Google Cloud AI. This is currently exclusive to the HONOR 400 series and works with real photos or AI artwork.

You can see these AI tools in action in the video I made on my YouTube channel:

Performance

Though positioned as an upper-midrange device, the HONOR 400 Pro packs a punch. It’s powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, last year’s flagship chipset, making it capable of excellent performance across both productivity and gaming.

The phone runs smoothly without lag or stuttering, even when playing graphically demanding games.

Software

The phone runs HONOR MagicOS 9.0 based on Android 15. Alongside HONOR’s built-in AI features, it also includes Google Gemini as an AI assistant. The convenient Circle-to-Search function is available too; just press and hold the bottom navigation bar.

Battery

The HONOR 400 Pro features a huge 6,000mAh silicon-carbon battery, easily delivering two full days of usage. With support for 100W wired and 50W wireless HONOR SuperCharge, it’s a phone that might make you forget about needing a power bank.

Verdict

The HONOR 400 Pro is a well-rounded flagship-level smartphone that delivers exceptional value. It checks all the right boxes and even outperforms some premium flagships in certain areas. For me, it could be top contender for the best upper-midrange smartphone of the year.
